MEDICINE WHEELS

'Sacred Circles'

As the glaciers of the last Ice Age receded, a corridor was created east of the Rocky Mountains, linking the far north to the south. It is believed that this was the earliest migratory route used by the first people of this continent. It is in this general area, that the surviving 150 Medicine Wheels are found, with the majority being in S. Alberta and Sask., and the remainder in Montana and Wyoming. Some Medicine Wheels have been dated at 7,580 years. They are believed to be linked to the spiritual traditions of the Indians, who knew themselves as 'the people of the earth'.
